Lake Tahoe Best Management Practices
Skip Navigation LinksLake Tahoe Best Management Practices :General Information :Erosion Control Team
As part of efforts to preserve Lake Tahoe for future generation, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) requires all developed properties to install Best management Practices (BMPs) which help improve water quality by reducing soil erosion and capturing polluted water before it enters Lake Tahoe. The Erosion Control Team is a grant funded division of TRPA and administers the BMP Retrofit program for the Lake Tahoe Basin .

The Erosion Control Team has the lead role in administering Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s BMP Retrofit Program for all developed properties, including commercial, residential, public service, as well as urban USFS lots. The Erosion Control Team is responsible for the BMP Retrofit Program, Long Term BMP Maintenance and Monitoring and Soils/Hydrologic scoping reports. The team is funded by grants (Sections 319 and 104 of the Clean Water Act and EPA, California Prop.13, Nevada License Plate Funds and Tahoe Restoration Act)) and soils/hydrologic application fees. One of the primary grant deliverables under the EPA 104(b)(3) grant is to develop a long term BMP maintenance and monitoring program that consists of planning and implementation phases. The planning phase entails developing a framework to create, track, and implement maintenance and monitoring programs for BMP and water quality-related activities and projects. The planning phase will be coordinated with TRPA’s BMP Retrofit Program to track and monitor the non-point discharges of the various activities and projects.

The implementation phase will involve the coordination, monitoring and tracking of the maintenance and functionality of the BMP Retrofit, water quality improvement, erosion control, and NPDES-related activities and projects.
