What happens if I do not do my BMPs?

TRPA is conducting targeted enforcement on out of compliant properties in all land uses within the Tahoe Region. Areas targeted are prioritized based on level of pollutant loading, proximity to Lake Tahoe or Stream Environment Zones (SEZ), community complaints, and proximity to public water quality improvement projects, among others. If you receive a TRPA Notice of Failure to Implement Water Quality Improvements (BMPs) by certified mail, contact the TRPA Environmental Specialist listed on the letter to determine next steps.

 

I have no money to implement my BMPs, what should I do?

Property owners can phase the installation of BMPs over time so costs can be incurred in manageable increments. Many BMPs are easy to install and resources are available to help guide do-it-yourself implementation Contact a TRPA Environmental Specialist to discuss the least costly BMP options for your property and an approved implementation schedule if you are concern with getting your BMPs installed on time.

 

What is the deadline for BMP implementation?

All properties who have not installed BMPs are considered out of compliance with TRPA’s Best Management Practices Requirements. All priority watershed deadlines passed October 15, 2008

Do I have to pave my driveway? Why? This seems counterintuitive?

Compacted dirt areas routinely disturbed by vehicular traffic are notorious sediment sources, especially in the winter during snow removal activities. Compacted dirt areas shall be paved and the runoff captured and infiltrated or restored and blocked off to prevent future disturbance.
